Does anyone know what these limstones were used for? They were found in the grounds of
Cwrt y Cadno, Carmarthenshire an ancient barn recently converted into lovely holiday accomodation. There is a limestone quarry nearby where the stones must surely have originated but to what purpose? they look like millstones, one was placed on top of the other with a stick down the middle the corn was placed in between the stones, and the top stone turned to make flour.i think
ReplyDeleteWe understand that millstones were not generally made of limestone. It was considered too soft for the job.
